What is Botox Cosmetic, and how does it work?

Botox Cosmetic is a wrinkle muscle relaxant that is injected. Botulinum toxin type A, especially OnabotulinumtoxinA, is used to paralyse muscle temporarily. This helps to decrease the look of wrinkles on the face.

Botox is a minimally invasive procedure. For fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, it’s regarded a safe and effective therapy. It can also be applied to the area between the eyes on the forehead.

Botox was first licenced by the FDA in 1989 to treat blepharospasm and other eye muscle issues. Botox was authorised by the FDA as a cosmetic therapy for moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in 2002. It was authorised by the FDA in 2013 for the treatment of wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet).

Botox Cosmetic may be used on which parts of the body?

The injection can be used for cosmetic purposes in the following areas:

  • the area between the eyebrows (glabellar region), to treat moderate to severe frown lines
  • around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s feet lines

What is Botox Cosmetic and how does it work?

Botox Cosmetic works by inhibiting nerve impulses and muscle contractions for a short period of time. Wrinkles around the eyes and between the brows are reduced as a result. It can also help to prevent new wrinkles from forming by inhibiting facial muscle contraction.

It’s a process with a low level of invasiveness. There are no incisions or general anaesthesia required. A topical anaesthetic or ice can numb the treatment area if you’re worried about pain or discomfort.

3-5 doses of botulinum toxin type A will be administered by your physician using a tiny needle during the procedure. They will inject the region between the brows that has been chosen. To get rid of crow’s feet, you’ll need three injections on each side of your eyes.

It takes around 10 minutes to complete the treatment.

How Long Does Botox Keep You Looking Young?

Botox injections usually provide benefits that last three to four months. Botox’s effects might persist up to six months in some circumstances. In certain cases, Botox may wear off sooner than predicted, depending on how the material is broken down by the patient’s body. A touch-up for Botox may be necessary in some cases, or more regular Botox treatments may be required.

Botox injections patients should expect to experience the full effects of their treatment within 14 days. A Botox touch-up can be performed if individuals see minor or no improvements in their face look after two weeks.

If the benefits of Botox have worn off after two months, a touch-up may be required. Botox’s effects will fade faster than predicted owing to a number of circumstances. If a patient’s Botox dose is insufficient, the therapy will not last as long as it should. To get long-lasting effects, it’s critical to choose an expert in facial rejuvenation treatment.
